The Crossing was a huge success with over 12,500 people attending the first ever event over the course of its five day celebrations. Crowds of visitors and locals came to join in as the flotilla sailed the entire length of the Caledonian Canal from Neptune’s Staircase in Banavie all the way to Muirtown Basin in Inverness.

The event was a first for British Waterways Scotland that celebrated the contribution that the Caledonian Canal has made to Highland communities, heritage and culture throughout its history with an exciting programme of shore-based entertainment as well as the variety of vessels in the flotilla, representing the types of craft that have used the canal over the years.
